In June 1996, the U.S. Defense Department created an interesting study titled StrikeStar the 2025th According to the final report, the development of unmanned aircraft naturally reach a stage where we will also be carried out with armed hostilities. In 2025, the drone with stealth characteristics, the authors decided to call StrikeStar will be able to patrol the target area for 24 hours and at a distance of 5940 km from the base, carrying a variety of weapons, usable in all weather conditions. Keeping the target area in constant risk of air attack had the opportunity to create “air occupation”. Alternatively, it could be reduced over time patrolling the target area, which would operate from the remote base to 13 640 km, which in turn corresponds to the CONUS strategy, whereby the majority of munitions to be mounted directly to the continental U.S., thus minimizing the need for basic abroad .
As an example of a hypothetical aircraft StrikeStar the authors selected two-engined aircraft modification DarkStar, prepared by Lockheed-Martin. This was particularly increased load capacity and space for bulkier equipment and armaments. It also increased the range and speed. This version of the machine DarkStar but was only a kind of intermediate stages of development, or rather the demonstration study, from which to develop further proposals for future UAVs armed with stealth characteristics. The report should in future take into account the proposals to create more space for payload, greater use of composite materials and use advanced stealth technology to increase performance without increasing the total weight of the machine. There is no indication that the term StrikeStar official designation from Lockheed Martin. What is interesting, however, purely hypothetical StrikeStar study gives an indication of information about how to look more and had improved the planned modification of the machine RQ-3A DarkStar, or its predchdoca Tier III.
