Jackass Flats is located in Nye County, NV.


The town’s historical significance was as the nuclear test site of Project Pluto, administered by the U.S. Air Force, and as the test site of Project Rover and NASA’s NERVA from 1959 through the end of 1972.

Jackass Flats was proposed as a possible launch site for Project Orion, administered by General Atomics in the late 1950s. It is located within Area 25 of the Nevada Test Site.

Present Day

Jackass Flats is currently home to the BREN Tower, the world’s tallest tower for scientific research.
